In 2020, as Peru found itself shut down in the midst of an international health crisis, the need for a place of support for young artists without gallery representation became urgent. Covid had forced isolation to the point of despair and an outlet for creative expression was critical.

In November 2020, the staff at Galeria del Paseo began to think of ways to support young artists.  The second floor of the space where Galeria del Paseo is housed had been vacated due to unpaid rent and by the end of the year there was no new tenant in sight.

Enter Paseolab, a project with the purpose of visibilizing the work of young artists who had been working in quarantine.  After a rigorous search and viewing of portfolios, a selection of 8 artists was made and a curatorial plan was put in motion for 4 pairs of artists to cohabit within the empty spaces of the house in weekly installments.

The result of its first offering was such a success that Paseolab decided to do a second edition with a new selection of young artists just a few months later. Since then, Paseolab has become an independent space for the reflection and promotion of emerging art. This past week, Paseolab participated in Next, the curated section of Pinta Parc Lima for young galleries and first endeavor within an art fair.

Paseolab’s roster includes young artists such as Alejandra Ortiz de Zevallos, Florence Goupil,  Verovcha, Emilio Bianchic and Fernando Nurena.
